Occasionally during the holidays people do tend to go overboard on eating at one time or another.  If that is the case, not all is usually lost. Key is to stay mindful during this holiday season and be vigilant about eating healthy at least 80% of the time.  These next few tips can help you stay on track with healthy eating for the season.

Tip #7: If overeating does occur at one meal, try to go light at the next meal

Okay, so the holiday office party had too many tempting foods, and you could not resist to over indulge a bit.  Is all lost?  No!  It takes an extra 500 calories/day above your normal dietary intake to gain 1 pound.  It is impossible to gain weight from one piece of cake.  Rather, if you feel you have overdone it at one meal during the day, then eat something sensible at the next.  For example, if at the holiday office party in the afternoon, you ate too much to the point of feeling like you were ready to wobble, then for dinner, have a big salad with lean protein (chicken or salmon) and a slice of toasted bread sprinkled with olive oil.  Be sure to watch the amount of salad dressing on the salad and you are good to go!

Tip #8: Take focus off of food

This is my personal favorite of all the tips.  In our culture, so much of the holidays are centered around food.  Why not this year, take the focus off of the food and place it on activities that you can do with your family, friends and relatives? Make holiday memories by planning group activities such as hikes, flag football games, soccer games, walks, or caroling to pass the time.  Not only will you get some great physical activity, but you will also be starting some new traditions that can be enjoyed by everyone in your social circles.
